I have a small Hobby show kennel nestled on 8. acres in the
small suburban Town of I have developed a breeding program with
the aid of mentors focusing on working / companion ability being the first
priority in this spunky breed.
After many years of breeding, I still believe you can have a house pet,
show-dog, companion and performance dog, which includes obedience, agility,
earthdog and flyball / rally in one neat little package.
These include dogs working in various performance aspects such as
Service dogs for the handicapped; Therapy; Search & Rescue fields of need.
But the stability of temperament must be there as a basis.
That can only come from a reputable breeder with a good solid breeding
program. The AKC “Parson Russell Terrier” is not to be
confused with the AKC “Russell Terrier”.
They used to have the same name years ago, but are now two
separate breeds which are not to be confused.
The AKC officially accepted the Parson Russell Terriers as a Jack
Russell Terrier in 2000.
In 2003, the name was changed to Parson
Russell Terrier to bring the breed name more in line with The British Kennel
Club and FCI. The FCI (World Federation of Dogs) accepted the Short-legged
terrier in 2000, under the name of Jack Russell Terrier.
The UKC accepted them under the name of “Russell Terriers” in 2002.
The AKC accepted them in 2007 under the name of “Russell Terrier What is the difference between a Parson Russell & a
Russell Terrier? Both
breeds come in two different coat types, Smooth and Broken.
Both Breeds are predominately white on their body with color on the head
and can include body spots which are acceptable as long as the breed displays a
minimum of 51% white color over all.
Both should be of “Friendly / Social behavior, yet reserved upon initial
meeting.” Reservation is not to be confused with
shyness. But aggressiveness toward
another human once their owners have introduced you is incorrect.
Sorry, but I no longer have any shorties,
a/k/a Russell Terriers. However, I
will gladly provide you with names of breeders who I believe are responsible and
care about the future of those little guys.
The Parson gives the appearance of a square dog (the standard
describes that the dog is slightly longer than is tall. The Parson has longer
legs than depth of chest). The
Russell is noticeably longer than is tall.
Bench of front legs, knuckled over legs, down of pasterns and/or toes out
are faults to be avoided. Investigate before you purchase either.
Your commitment is 12 – 18 years for either one of these.
Tails being docked are optional depending upon the breeder and the litter

Our dogs are DNA Profiled and carry a microchip. We BAER and CERF our dogs before breeding. Ask the Terriers about TimberWolf Organics. It is a food made the way nature Intended. Mitern Farm is now a Dealer.
